Nonn Lab welcomes Brenna Kirkpatrick, MSTP student!! we also say goodbye to Sasha, PREP scholar who has been part of our lab family for the past year. Sasha is off to graduate school at the University of Wisconsin at Madison.

This roller coaster time had the highlight of Tara McCray graduating and moving to her new postdoctoral position at the University of Washington. She squeaked in her thesis defense just before the shutdown. Congratulations Dr. McCray!

Larisa Nonn was awarded a Department of Defense Prostate Cancer Research Program Health Disparity Research Award. This 3 year $715,000 grant is entitled “Vitamin D Deficiency Leads to Increased Intra-Prostatic Hormones in African American Men” and involves Gail Prins, Professor of Urology at UIC as a co-investigator.
Zachary received a National Research Service Award Individual Predoctoral Fellowship (F31) from the National Institutes of Health for his project titled "Vitamin D and Prostate Cancer Disparities in African American Men"

Larisa attended the Cubs-Pirates game, with Gail Prins and Donald Vandergriend,for the Prostate Cancer Foundation "Home run Challenge". Every home run resulted in a donation to the PCF. Here she is with Mike Milken, Founder of the PCF, and Tommy Lasorda.

Larisa receives a Chicago Health Equity Collaborative Pilot grant to study in vitro models of African-American prostate cancer. Drs. Voisine (NEIU), Abdulkadir (NU) and Murphy (NU) are co-Principle Investigators on the project. Each lab will host an NEIU student in the summer of 2016 to work on the study.
